How Boerse Stuttgart Digital Powers Regulated Institutional Crypto Access with Fireblocks
Benefits at a glance
MiCAR-compliant custody infrastructure supporting institutional growth
MPC-based wallet and address management across multiple blockchains
Tailored transaction policies and flexible wallet configuration
Boerse Stuttgart Digital partnered with Fireblocks to scale its regulated, institutional-grade crypto trading and custody services while meeting stringent MiCAR and EU compliance requirements. Fireblocks’ API-first, MPC-based infrastructure enabled rapid integration of new assets, granular policy controls, and a secure hybrid custody model, supporting expansion across multiple European markets. As a result, Boerse Stuttgart Digital delivers a modular, compliant, and scalable crypto offering with faster time-to-market and reduced operational risk.
Challenge
With Boerse Stuttgart Digital, Boerse Stuttgart Group has built the largest digital business of all European exchange groups, offering fully regulated, institutional-grade crypto trading and custody solutions. With MiCAR regulation already in force and growing demand from banks, brokers, and asset managers, their infrastructure is established on three pillars: security, compliance, and scalability.
Providing easy and reliable access to crypto for financial institutions and their clients, Boerse Stuttgart Digital required an enterprise solution that could:
- Rapidly integrate with new protocols
- Offer granular policy configuration
- Support evolving staking and DeFi needs
- Scale with minimal disruption to internal systems
- Align with stringent German and EU regulatory requirements
Solution
Boerse Stuttgart Digital chose Fireblocks to enhance its digital asset custody capabilities, MPC-based architecture, and compliance readiness. Unlike legacy providers, Fireblocks offered the flexibility and performance needed to scale—and the infrastructure to stay ahead of regulatory scrutiny.
Fireblocks’ API-first platform enabled the team to:
- Customize client workflows using programmable transaction policies
- Integrate new tokens and blockchains quickly with minimal engineering lift
- Include a secure MPC custody infrastructure on top of its existing in-house cold storage
- Operate confidently in a hybrid custody model
- Scale regulated crypto services across France, Spain, and Italy with reduced operational risk
Throughout multiple audit cycles, the Fireblocks team provided direct access to technical specialists, helping reduce both time and cost.
Working Together, Auditing Once: The Value Behind the Fireblocks COR Package
For Fabian Diether, Internal Auditor at Boerse Stuttgart Digital and coordinator of the Pooled Audit community, the value of the Fireblocks COR Package comes down to the shared effort of replacing duplicated work. Rather than each customer commissioning a separate audit of Fireblocks, the Pooled Audit event enables a community of crypto asset providers to combine forces, agree on a common scope, and review the same evidence together, producing one consolidated outcome for the whole group.
Diether describes the process in practical terms: “A Pooled Audit is a joint workup session between COR Package customers, where all the car mechanics come together and look under the same hood of the car to verify that the engine we all use works correctly.”
That collaborative model matters especially under DORA, which requires financial institutions to audit any service provider supporting a critical function. A standard SOC 2 audit, scoped solely by the provider, may not capture every customer’s specific regulatory concerns. The Pooled Audit closes that gap by letting each participant bring their own requirements to the table, review the same documentation, and shape the final scope collectively.
Ultimately, Diether frames the COR Package as the product of sustained, joint investment by the whole community. “Fireblocks met our scope that we proposed, including the documentation, the evidence, and the requests that we had, and addressed them in a professional manner. The Pooled Audit report is a result of the Pooled Audit community’s collective work, for which we invested time, money, and significant effort,” Diether said.
