On July 15, Citadel Securities used Fireblocks to take part in DTC’s live tokenization production initiative. The event marked a significant step toward the launch of the DTCC Tokenization Service in October 2026, and demonstrated the value of Fireblocks for an institution of the scale of Citadel Securities.
Why Citadel Securities Chose Fireblocks
As one of the world’s largest market makers, Citadel Securities needed a digital asset infrastructure partner capable of supporting its scale and speed, while meeting its requirements for operational resilience and standard controls.
When DTC opened its tokenization initiative to participants earlier this year, Citadel Securities recognized the value of taking part. Having enabled custody and native token transfer support to the Canton Network in February 2026, Fireblocks was already extending its capabilities on Canton for the DTC initiative and had the track record to support Citadel Securities’ participation in the July 15 tokenization event.
What Happened on July 15
Citadel Securities used the DTCC Tokenization Service to create a tokenized representation of the U.S. Treasuries on the Canton Network. The firm held the tokenized securities entitlement in its Fireblocks wallet, transferred them to their counterparties DTC-registered wallets, including wallets registered to BNP Paribas and Société Générale, and then posted them to CME as collateral to fund trading activity.

“Fireblocks delivered for us. We greatly valued their partnership and dedication in preparing for the tokenization event to make July 15th work smoothly.”

Moving high-quality assets between counterparties onchain can vastly improve capital and operational efficiency, particularly at scale. The ability to move assets around the clock, rather than during fixed operating hours, opens up additional flexibility for market participants.
The Role of Fireblocks Infrastructure
Fireblocks’ integration with the Canton Network supported Citadel Securities’ connectivity and participation in the DTCC Tokenization Service initiative. Citadel Securities was able to use infrastructure it already knew and trusted, vastly reducing time to market and operational complexity. Specifically, Fireblocks:
- Provided validator node infrastructure, giving Citadel Securities access to the Canton Network;
- Provided the interface used to onboard with DTCC and add wallet addresses (“Party IDs”) to DTCC’s allow list;
- Provided wallet infrastructure to securely hold tokenized securities entitlements, view balances, and easily initiate or accept transfers;
- Enabled fine-grained governance and policy rules to meet Citadel Securities’ internal risk requirements;
- Delivered daily reporting on the balances and activity.
Being Ready for October Starts Now
July 15 was a proof point. The DTCC Tokenization Service is anticipated to launch in October as a voluntary service for eligible DTC Participants. Initially, the service is expected to support certain eligible securities, including U.S. Treasury securities, securities in the Russell 1000 Index, and ETFs that track major market indices.
Citadel Securities knows what this looks like running in production, and has partnered with Fireblocks to support its longer-term digital asset ambitions at scale. Institutions looking to take part in the DTCC Tokenization Service as part of their broader digital asset strategy need look no further than Fireblocks.
